102 tonnes of coal with his pnuematic pick in 5 hours and 45 minutes in August 1935 - this was the amount of coal normally expected from a miner in 14 times that length of time.
What happened to Stakhanov?
He was hailed as an example of how human determination and endeavour might increase productivity ; he was declared a soviet hero and given a large bonus and honourary awards. Competitions were arranged for others to emulate Stakhanov’s achievement.
Why was the Stakhanovite movement so significant?
It was the ideal propaganda for a party trying to create a new proletarian culture based on teamwork and selfless sacrifice.

No, there was some jealousy attatched due to Stakhanovites recieving superior accomodation or material benefits. There are records of Stakhanovites being victimised or even attacked by collegues who were less enthusiastic and resented campaigns to persuade them to work harder.
What was the truth about the Stakhanovite movement?
It was a propaganda stunt, Stakhanov had been given a team of several workers who had done everything possible to support him, carrying out a range of tasks that miners were normally expected to do themselves.
How did Ordzhinikidze refer to Stakhanov?
