A study of encoding (baddeleys study) Flashcards
1
Q
aim
A
Baddeley aimed to see if there was a difference in the type of encoding used in short- and long-term memory.
2
Q
long term memory
A
has a very large capacity and a very long duration. Coding is mainly semantic (meaning). This is our
permanent memory.
3
Q
short term memory
A
has a limited capacity and limited duration. Information tends to be coded in terms of sounds (acoustic): This is a temporary store - information may simply disappear or may be passed to long-term memory if it is ‘rehearsed’ repeatedly.
