What is Deindividuation?
A process whereby people lose their sense of socialised identity and engage in unsocialised, often anti-social behaviour
When does deindividuation occur?
When people join large groups or crowds or when anonymity is increased - they feel less identifiable and less inhibited
What does deindividuation cause?
Individual becomes less self aware Don't conform to what is acceptable Reduced fear of negative consequences Less concerned about what others think Less fear of negative evaluation by others
