Four Key Characteristics of conduct disorder?
Aggression to people and animals
Destruction of property
Deceitfulness or theft
Serious violations of rules
Is conduct disorder more common in boys or girls?

9 year old boy is lighting cats on fire, and is constantly physically fighting at school. What would this suggest?
Conduct disorder –> more physical (aggression, destruction, deceitfulness)
12 year old boy is constantly disobeying his parents, purposefully annoys his siblings all the time and is extremely spiteful. What does this indicate?
Oppositional defiant disorder (more interpersonal, not as physcial/extreme as conduct disorder)
What is the spectrum of Conduct disorders?
Normal youth acting out –> oppositional defiant disorder –> conduct disorder –> antisocial personality disorder (after age 18)
What is the difference between conduct disorder and oppositional defiant disorder?
ODD symptoms are usually less severe (more interpersonal) and do not include aggression towards people, animals, or property
A mother describes problems with constant misbehavior and acting out by her 8 year old son. What parenting strategies would be helpful?
Give clear, brief commands, reduce task complexity, and eliminate competing influences
What is the diathesis-stress model?
Diathesis –> predisposing biology, including genetic factors
Stress- enviornmental factors
If combo of predispostiion and stress excessds a threshold, person will develop a disorder
