Visual field defects
What is a central scotoma?
Blind spot in the center of vision of one eye caused by damage to the fovea
What is monocular vision loss?
Vision loss in one entire eye caused by damage to the optic nerve.
What is bitemporal hemianopia?
Loss of peripheral vision in both visual fields caused by damage to the optic chiasm.
What is contralateral homonymous hemianopia?
Loss of vision to the same side of the visual field in both eyes (e.g. right side) caused by damage to the contralateral side of the brain or the LGN
What is contralateral superior quadrantopia?
Vision loss of the upper portion of one half of the visual field caused by damage to the lower portion of visual pathway/LGN.
What is contralateral inferior quadrantopia?
Vision loss of the lower half of one side of the visual field caused by damage to upper part of the visual pathway/LGN
What is contralateral homonymous hemiopia with macular sparing?
Vision loss of one side of the visual field which vision from the fovea intact. Caused by blocked artery that impairs peripheral vision but spares the vessels that go to center vision.
What is color agnosia?
Inability to see color. Caused by damage to V4
What is akinetopsia (movement agnosia)
Loss of movement vision caused by bilateral poster damage to V5
