9.2 cell activites Flashcards
Simple diffusion
takes susbtances and passes them through the membrane from high to low. needs small and nonpolar molecules to work.
ex.
- oxygen
- CO2
Facilitated diffustion
takes substances and passes them through a protien channel found in the membrane. goes from high to low, and needs smaller molecules that can be charged to work.
ex.
- water
- glucose
- amino acids
- ions
Active transport
takes substances and passes them through a protein “pump” or “port” with the use of ATP. transports substances from low to high, and needs smeller molecules that can be charged to work.
ex.
- water
- glucose
- amino acids
- ions
Osmosis
the diffusion of water across a semi-permeable membrane to dilute higher solute concentrations.
Hypertonic
Higher concentration of solute, less water.
Hypotonic
Lower concentration of solute, more water.
Exocytosis
The removal of substances in a cell with a vesicle.
Endocytosis
Taking in substances by creating a pocket in the membrane the pinching it into a vesicle to bring it into the cell.
Structure of a cell membrane`
Made of a selectively permeable lipid bilayer (look like little bobby pins and are very flexible)
