8.4 DNA Flashcards
Codon
3 nucleotide bases
Anticodon
Oppisite of whatever codons.
Ex. AUG –> TAC
Translation
The process that creates mRNA
Start codon
AUG
Stop codon
The message to stop the translation process.
Positive Transcription Factor
A protein that binds to DNA and promotes the transcription gene.
Negative Transcription Factor
A protein that binds to DNA that prevents the
Affinity
The measurement of one biomolcule to another.
Mutation
A change in a base sequence.
mRNA
Contains messages and codes for amino acids.
tRNA
Transfers amino acids and contains anticodons that will pair with regular codons.
rRNA
Facititates matching codons on RNA & anticodons on DNA, also places amino acids on polypeptide chain.
Point mutation
Affects a single type of pair (ATG)
Silent Mutation
When a single letter is changed, and causes no overall change to the group.
Nonsense mutation
When the last group in the order is changed into a ‘STOP’ group. (Ends the translation)
Missense mutation
When a base is removed.
Frameshift Mutation
When a part is removed/”deleted.”
