9.1 cells Flashcards
prokaryotes
cells without a nucleus
eukaryotes
cells with a nucleus
what are the simularites and differences in the cells?
all three cells have a membrane, cystoplasm, ribosomes, DNA, and vesicles.
eukaryotes only have have: a nucleus, mitochondria, ER, and a golgi app.
plant cells only have: chroloplast (some), cell walls, vacuoles
animal cells only have: lysosomes
how are cells contained?
all cells have membranes, however some have multiple layers or cells walls.
how is waste removed?
waste is broken down by enzymes, then they travel out of the membrane. depending on the cell, there are different ways of removing waste.
animal- in lysosomes
plant- vacuole
bacteria- cytoplasm
how is energy produced in cells?
energy is produced into ATP in the mitochondria in eukaryotic cells, but in some plant cells, they’ll use photosynthesis with chloroplasts. in bacteria cells energy is gained in cellular respiration.
what gives a cell their own unique properties?
their specialized parts (roots/tails) and proteins.
