9.1 Cells Flashcards
Define Prokaryote
A prokaryote is a single-celled organism that lacks a nucleus and other organelles. The word prokaryote comes from the Greek word pró meaning “before”.
Define Eukaryote
A eukaryote is an organism or cell that has a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles. The word “eukaryotic” means “true nucleus”.
Give the function of a Spongy Parenchyma
The plant cells take in carbon dioxide from the air; using energy from the sun, they make it into sugar. Often they store things like nutrients and water.
Give the function of an intestinal absorptive cell
These cells take up nutrients from food. They are also a part of a protective barrier that keeps partially digested food inside the intestinal tube and away from sensitive tissues.
What cells have a cell wall? A cell membrane?
Bacteria cell, and Plant cell. All cells.
What do all cells have?
Cell membrane, ribosomes, cytoplasm, and DNA
