7.1 Protiens Flashcards
What are the 4 levels of protein structure?
Primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary
What happens during protein denaturation?
A condition that disrupts H bonds and ionic bonds.
How are tertiary structure is formed by interactions between the following:
Hydrophobic interactions
Hydrophilic interactions
Acidic and Basic side chains
Cysteine side chains
Hydrophobic interactions: gets clumped into the center
Hydrophilic interactions: they form hydrogen bonds outside the hydrophobic
Acidic and Basic side chains: Opposites get attracted outside the hydrophilic
Cysteine side chains: Form disulfide bonds on the very outside
What is an example of a hormone?
Insulin
What are examples of enzymes?
Fatty acid synthase, RuBisCo, Pepsin
What are examples of infrastructure?
Microtubule, Collagen, Actin
What are examples of channels, pumps, and receptors?
Calcium pump, Potassium channel, acetylcholine receptor
