1.2 Intro to Biology Flashcards
What’s the standard deviation for the number set: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7?
2
Translate 10 km to m
10,000 m.
What is mass?
The amount of matter in an object.
What is volume?
The amount of space an object takes up.
What is an independent variable and what axis does it go on?
A independent variable is what is being changed in an experiment and it goes on the x-axis.
What is a dependent variable and what axis does it go on?
A dependent variable is what is being measured in an experiment and it goes on the y-axis.
What is a direct graph?
Both variables increase together.
What is an indirect graph?
One variable increases while the other decreases.
What is the difference between interpolation and extrapolation.
Interpolation is within the given data and extrapolation is outside the given data.
How do you calculate mean and median?
Mean: add all the numbers and divide by how many total that were added.
Median- Line the numbers smallest to largest and find the number in the middle.
Convert 226.1 degrees Celcius to Fahrenheit.
F=(C)(9/5)+32
F=79
Is the observation that someone is tall qualitative or quantitative?
Qualitative
What does qualitative mean?
An observation describing the thing, not numerical.
What does quantitative mean?
Same characteristic involving measurement or count.
Clams were placed into various temperatures of water. What is the independent variable?
Water temperature (C)
