8.6 MEL Flashcards
Can the aircraft be dispatched with zero days remaining, IE the day of expiry of an MEL?
Yes, can dispatch with zero days remaining and land with it expired.
BEWARE OF MULTIPLE SECTOR DAYS.
Can you dispatch with an expired rectification interval?
Shall not, UNLESS:
One time extension of B, C , D for same interval, provided:
Operator and authority have reach agreement.
What shall ENG do if MEL has been rectified?
-Make an entry on AML showing items and details of rectification,
-Including that MEL/CDL has been removed!
- removed all placards from flight deck.
8.6.1
What is an operations dispensation?
CPA approved by CaD to operate outside the conditions of the MEL.
(IE 15 lightning strikes or something not in MEL)
- Contact IOC asap
- Beware of EDTO items. (May need to downgrade to non EDTO
8.6.2 CDL covers deficiencies in what?
Usually external items that affect aircraft PERFORMANCE.
(Aerodynamic fairings, reverser blocker doors, static discharges, etc)
- should usually have an associated PADD
CDL in AML is usually associated with what?
PADD
(Indicating loss in performance)
We had a CdL item once that didn’t have a PADD and it was actually wrong. As it should have some penalty.
What is interval A
Time interval as specified.
Calendar days:
Start is 00:01 on day after discovery
Flight sectors or hours:
Starts beginning of first flight after discovery.
What is category B for MEL?
3 consecutive calendar days, excluding day of discovery
Category C
How long for MEL?
Rectified within 10 consecutive calendar says, excluding day of discovery.
Category D
Within 120 consecutive Calendar days , excluding day of discovery.
You’re taxing out, and get a status message which you know has a MEL, should you continue?
Technically you’ve already dispatched.
But!
Section 0 purpose and scope says:
PIC shall satisfy himself before the aircraft TAKESoff, that flight may commence in compliance with conditions of the MEL.
When is the MEL applicable up until?
Dispatch!?
Up until the time the aircraft moves under its own power (start of taxi).
If failure occurs after taxi but before take off, decision rests on PIC and good airmanship.
Consider (M), (O) and consultation with IOC also recommended.
Also consider that MEL’s do not account for multiple failures.
What must engineer do if they defer something in the AML?
1) if available, PIC fully briefed on all aspects of MEL
2) details of specific Ref number must be recorded as one of following:
- ADD
-PADD
- SADD
3) placards
4) ENG shall
Ensure P or S put in where needed and that performance or operational restrictions are applied;
(Fuel penalty, carriage of cargo, flight restriction , system restriction.
5) decision of PIC regarding acceptance of aircraft is final.
What should you consider when ENG is raising a new MEL?
Potential MEL conflicts.
Current MEL items MUST be review in order to ensure no conflict exists.
Who can approve the extension of an MEL?
Cx engineering planning Cat E approval holders
(B C D only)
