How does a steam engine work

A

When heated, water turns to an invisible vapor known as steam. The volume of water expands as it turns to steam inside the boiler, creating a high pressure. The expansion of steam pushes the pistons that connect to the driving wheels that operate the locomotive.

  • workers had to live close to the factory
  • shortage in housing, low wages
  • 1 family shared 1 room
  • 5 kids was normal
  • houses were cold in winter and super hot in summer
  • Streets were crowded and small
  • Thieves, murderers and drunkards roamed the alleyways
  • Orphans and beggars had to live in dwellings in the backstreets
  • No water supply/toilet –> dirty
  • Typhus and Cholera killed ppl bc of this
