Air Capable Ship
All ships other than CV/CVN or LHA/LHD from which aircraft can T/O, be recovered, or routinely receive and transfer logistic support.

BRC
Base Recovery Course: The ships magnetic heading for A/C recovery
Bingo (order)
An order to an A/C to proceed immediately to a divert.
CHARLIE (Order)
A signal for A/C to land aboard the ship. Number before indicates time delay.
Clear Deck
Conventional landing on a RAST capable ship that does not use the RSD or RSD cable.
Control Area (ACS)
25 NM. Surface to infinity. Under cognizance of HDC/AOCC for TACC.
AOCC
Air Ops Control Center: Collocated w/ HDC in an LHA/LPD and responsible for air ops when not in an amphibious objective area.
Advisory Control
Aircraft receives directions and recommendations.
A/C Commander not relieved of responsibility for own safety and nav
Close Control
A/C receives orders affecting movement.
Pilot will not deviate from instructions unless given permission or unless unusual circumstances require immediate action for the safety of the flight. In either case, pilot will inform controller of action taken.
Requires: 2 way radio comms, radar contact
Controller responsible for safety.
Pilot informed if not on radar for 1 minute or 5 sweeps.
Ultimate safety lies w/ pilot.
Positive control
Aircraft receives orders affecting movement.
Responsibility for safe nav transferred to controlling unit.
Control Zone (ACS)
5 NM radius. Surface to 2500’
Control of Air Officer (or delegate) during VMC.
DELTA (order)
Order to hold and conserve fuel at specific position and altitude
Departure control (ACS)
Control station in AOCC/HDC that is responsible for the orderly flow of departing traffic
ELVA definition
An emergency procedure used w/ ACS when approach mins are less than 200/ 1/2
