8: Hypertensive DOs Of Pregnancy Flashcards
Maternal risks of HTN in pregnancy
MI, death, CVA, Pulm edema, renal failure, liver failure, retinal ischemia, preeclampsia/eclampsia
Fetal risks of HTN in pregnancy
Fetal growth restriction, preterm birth, placental abruption, stillbirth, neonatal death, congenital abnlts
Stage 1 vs stage 2 HTN
Stage 1: systolic 130-139, diastolic 80-89
Stage 2: systolic 140+, diastolic 90+
Hypertensive crisis
Systolic 180+ and/or diastolic 120+
Proper BP cuff length
Length 1.5x upper arm circumference
Two HTN meds to avoid at all costs in pregnancy and why
ACEI and ARBs -> increased risk of malformations like renal dysgenesis, calvarial hypoplasia, fetal growth restriction
Therapeutic value of mag sulfate
4-6 mg/dL
What happens with progressively too high of doses of mag sulfate
Loss of patellar reflexes -> respiratory paralysis -> cardiac arrest
How long after delivery to continue mag sulfate
24 hrs
