8 - GENETIC INTERACTION Flashcards
how are forward genetic screens performed to identify genes involved in a biochemical pathway
then those that are not growing in the minimal medium are transferred onto media that are specific for something (amino acids, vitamins etc)
then you test them on media that have one amino acid only to test for the specificity
what is auxotrophy
inability of an organism to synthesize a particular organic compound required for its growth
what can you do to determine whether the mutations are alleles of the same gene or different genes when studying gene interactions
how are the ratios different when there are genetic interactions
gene interactions and mendelian ratios when there is a regulator gene and a target gene
example of two genes affecting the same characteristic but working independently and the ratios
what is epistasis
what is an example of recessive epistasis
how does a suppressor gene interaction work
how does a modifier gene interaction work
how does a synthetic lethal interaction work
