74. Metastasis Flashcards
Metastasis
Cells coming from the primary tumour will reach other organs in the body
Classification of metastasis
▪ Local/paratumoral – next to the tumour, in the original tissue
▪ Regional – in sentinel lymph node(s)
▪ Distant – in other, distant organs
Routes of metastasis
Hematogenous
Lymphogenous
Lymphohematogenous
Intracanalicular = Implantation/inoculation Diaplacentar
Hematogenous route is characteristic of which tumor
sarcomas
Vena cava type metastasis
right side of heart, then lungs
Vena portae metastasis
into liver’s capillary system
Vena pulmonalis type metastasis
– primary lung tumour to left side of heart, then to large circulation
Vena hepatica type metastasis
– primary liver tumour to caudal caval vein, then to lungs
Paravertebral type metastasis
– retrograde, through plexus venosus paravertebralis to vertebral venous plexus (to vertebrae, skull, limbs)
Lymphogenous metastasis characteristic of which tumor?
carcinoma
Implantation metastasis
Tumours can burst into serosal cavities and cells can implant on serosal layers
Intracanalicular
nerve tissue tumours can reach liquor (CSF), they can give intracranial, intraspinal metastases is
