69. The general macro- and microscopic morphology of tumors. The increase in volume of tumor cells and tumoral proliferations Flashcards
Morphologic description of a tumor
Benign or malignant?
Soliter or multiplex
BUT: more primary tumours can occur in the same time or after each other, in the same animal
Simultaneous neoplasias can be the same in character or different, can be located in the same organ or not
Recurrence = the tumour grows back after removal None of the above is metastasis
Colour of the tumor influenced by?
▪ Blood content
▪ Pigmentation
▪ Fresh or older bleeding
▪ Regressive changes (fatty infiltration, necrosis, calcification)
2 main parts of tumor microscopic morphology
Stroma
Tumor parenchyma (all neoplastic cells)
Desmoplasia
Tumour cells’ PDGF production induces stromal fibroblasts to produce collagene= “scirrhous” or “desmoplastic” reaction
