7.0 Devices Flashcards
What is the DATA STRUCTURE OF DEVICES?
Flowsheet Row (FLO) --> Variable (FDC) --> Device Type (FDV) --> Device (DEV) --> Device Group (DEV) --> Workstation (LWS)
What is a DEVICE?
A piece of medical equipment, such as a monitor or a ventilator that”
1) Is connected to a patient and
2) collects medical data about that patient or their treatment.
What DEVICES usually include?
Patient monitors and anesthesia machines.
What is a patient MONITOR?
Monitors collect vital signs and are mainly used in the intraprocedural context ﴾but can be used outside of the OR﴿.
What are ANESTHESIA MACHINES?
Anesthesia machines manage and administer anesthetics and gases to the patient.
What are the DEVICE MASTER FILES?
Variable (FDC) –>
Device Type (FDV) –>
Device (DEV) –>
Device Group (DEV)
What is a device VARIABLE (FDC)?
A specific data point your device collects. Examples include: * diastolic non‐invasive blood pressure * systolic non‐invasive blood pressure * SpO2.
What is a DEVICE TYPE (FDV)?
Stores information that is true for all individual devices of the same make, model, and year.
What is a DEVICE (DEV)?
Represents the actual (specific) device that is attached to the patient.
What is a DEVICE GROUP ﴾DEV﴿?
Groups devices so you can attach multiple at one time.
What is DEVICE INTEGRATION?
Device integration is the process by which data from devices becomes part of the patient’s medical record.
How are data from devices FED INTO EPIC?
Using an HL7 message sent from the device into Epic. (HL7 is an organization that develops healthcare informatics standards.)
What are the SEVEN DEVICE BUILD STEPS?
- Identify flowsheets for variables
- Create variable ﴾FDC﴿ records
- Create device type ﴾FDV﴿ records
- Create device ﴾DEV﴿ records
- Create device group ﴾DEV﴿ records
- Configure the interface for device integration to work appropriately
- Test your build
What are the two approaches to take in identifying Flowsheets for Variables?
Use Epic‐released flowsheet rows
Your organization can also create their own.
What are used in Anesthesia Intraprocedure activity to prevent a surplus of data in flowsheets viewed by nurses in other areas of the hospital?
Override flowsheet rows.
