What does anti- oppressive practice mean?
being alert to the ways in which your own lives and service recipients lives may be effected by their social identity
being alert to the ways in which sharing of identities or having a different identity
What does Anti-oppressive practice look at?
Looks at the use and abuse of power and seeks to understand social structures and creation of oppression of those who don’t fit in the dominant group.
what are the forms of opression?
Individual: attitudes and actions that reflect prejudice against a social group
societal: social norms, belief that one group is better than another
institutional: policies, laws and social institutions that disadvantage some social groups and advantage others.
