Determining if an individual has a mental illness isn’t easy or obvious, if you’ve lived with it for so long you might not even notice
What are the most common mental illnesses?
Anxiety, Depression, OCD, Bipolar, Schizophrenia and body image disorders

Medical model, Structural model, Critical disability and social constructionist.
What is the medical model approach to mental illness?
Most common, diagnoses, gives meds, problem exists within the individual. 30-40% of people don’t have an effect from meds.
What is the structural model to mental illness?
Mental illness is caused by inaquadit social systems or societal support
What is the critical disability model to mental illness?
Environment disables us, school system only caters to one type of learner
What is the social constructions model?
Mental illness is created by comparing people to a norm, mental illness doesn’t really exist, we just like labelling people.
What is the MAD social movement?
Social movement to change understanding, people with mental illness disorders reclaiming the word mad, listen to mad people and look at their point of view, focuses on = equal human rights.
