What are pilot studies?
A small scale version of an investigation to take place before the real investigation is conducted. Aiming to check the procedures materials and measuring scales work.
What is the purpose of the pilot study?
To roadtest the procedure and check the investigation run smoothly therefore allowing the research and identify any possible issues and modify the design.
What is a single blind procedure? & what is its purpose?
This is when only the participants are not told the information about the study they’re taking part in and is in attempt to control for demand characteristics.
What is a double-blind procedure?
& what is its purpose?
A study in which neither the participants nor the researcher to conduct the study is aware of the aims of the investigation. Investigation will be conducted by someone who is independent of the study and does not know which drugs are real and placebos for example.
What are control groups and control conditions?
& what is its purpose?
The control group for a drugs treatment study would be the group that received the placebo this would be the control condition. Control groups/conditions are used as a baseline for comparison of studies.
