Any method in which a person is asked to state what or explain their own feelings, opinions, behaviours and/or experiences related to a given topic.
What are questionnaires?
A set of questions (sometimes referred to as items) used to assess a person’s thoughts and/or experiences.
What the psychologists use questionnaires for?
To assess thoughts and/or feelings it can also be used to assess an individual’s personality type.
What are open questions?
A question that does not have a fixed range of answers and respondents are free to answer in any way they wish they tend to produce qualitative data is rich in depth.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of Open questions?
They provide rich and depth of information however they may make it harder to interpret and analyse the data gathered.
What are closed questions?
Because question of the fixed number of responses and produce numerical data by limiting the answers respondents can give.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of closed questions?
They produce quantitative data which is usually easy to analyse but I made that the depth and detail associated with open questions.
What are the evaluation points for questionnaires?
They are cost-effective and they can get a large amount of data quickly.
It can be completed without the researcher being present so reduces the effort involved.
Some of the data produced can be easily analysed and I lends itself to statistical analysis.
However the responses given may not always be truthful so demand characteristics or social desirability effect may influence the results also response bias can have an influence.
What is an interview?
A live encounter where one person asks a set of questions to assess an interviewees thoughts and/or experiences.
What are the three main types of interviews?
Structured interviews, unstructured interviews and semistructured interviews.
What are structured interviews?
Structured interviews are made up of a predetermined set of questions that are asked in a fixed order.
What are unstructured interviews?
An unstructured interview works a lot like a conversation, there are no set questions, there is a general aim a certain topic will be discussed.
What are semistructured interview is?
When there is a list of questions that have been worked out in advance but the interviewers are also able to ask follow-up questions when they feel it is appropriate.
What are the evaluation points for structured interviews?
Your straightforward to replicate because they have a standardised format. However the fact that interview was cannot deviate or elaborate on the points may be frustrating.
What are the evaluation points for unstructured interviews?
There is much more flexibility and unstructured interview and interview I can follow up points as they arise to gain more insight.
However analysis of data is much more complicated so drawing conclusions is made more difficult. + develop a rapport
