6C.1 Magnetic Fields Flashcards
what are poles
the magnetic equivalence of a charged particle (north and south pole)
what is the magnetic field
it is a region of space that will cause a magnetic pole to feel force
what are the magnetic flux
an alternative phrase referring to magnetic field lines
the magnetic flux acts from
the north pole to south pole
what is the magnetic flux density
the ratio between magnetic flux and the area it is passing through (magnetic flux strength)
the closer and dense the lines in magnetic flux are
the stronger the field is
what is tesla T
the unit for magnetic flux density/magnetic field strength
the attraction in a magnetic field is stronger at, and how is it represented
it is stronger at the ends of teh pole and is represented by closer field lines there (page 58)
what is weber, Wb
it is the unit of measurement of magnetic flux and magnetic flux linkage
what is the formula for magnetic flux
magnetic flux = B sin x area od the region the field passes through
if the magnetic flux is uniform and lies perpendicular to the area the angle is
90 so sin 90 = 1 so nagnetic flux = B x area
what is the magnetic field strength
it is an alternative phrase for magnetic field density
how can we use a single strand of wire to have more effect when a magnetic field is applied to it
by coiling the wire up, where the field can interact with each coil of the wire having a greater effect
what is flux linkage
teh amount of magnetic flux interacting with a coil of wire
flux linkage =
N(number of turns) x magnetic flux and flux linkage = B x A X N
