Why it occured:
- the jews were angry about Roman interference with their affairs
- the romans stole silver from the temple
- a statue of their emperor was put in their temple to worship instead
- unfair taxes
- the romans appointed a high priest
What happened during the Great Revolt?
Zealots
- a jewish group of people who opposed roman rule in judea strongly (even armed resistance)
- very willing to fight for Jewish independence
what they did during the revolt:
- they overthrew romans, extreme
- went through any means to justify overthrowing romans
- burned the food supply of Jerusalem to try to provoke the Jews into rebellion against the Romans
What were the outcomes of the Great Revolt?
- Jews repelled the Roman army which gave some of them hope
- Romans sent more soldiers down to Galilee
- The romans sieged Jerusalem and destroyed the second temple
What was the second temple for?
- a place of animal offerings and prayers
- because the second temple was destroyed, it led to the rise of Rabbinic Jerusalem, less centered around temples but more on teachers (rabbis) (DANNY SAUNDERS!!!!!!)/ the chosen ref

- fled from Rome disguised as a corpse and convinced others to kill themselves
- agreed to write an account of the revolt for the Romans, wrote it in their favor
