What is Levant?
a region in the middle east (modern-day Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan
- in the region was the homeland of the ancient Hebrews/Israelites
What is monothesism?
monotheism is the belief in a singular god, and was one of the most important aspects of Judaism
Who is God for Jews?
- doesn’t let you sleep/slumber
- made heaven and earth
- god - transcends humans
- omnipotent
- compassionate
How did Romans tolerate the Jews at first?
At first, the Jews were tolerated by the Romans
- soon they were persecuted for refusing to worship Roman emperors/gods because of their belief in monotheism
What happened in 1000-900 B.C.?
It was when the Israelite kingdom was established (according to evidence)
What happened in 1020 - 930 B.C.?
- the first king of israelites was appointed!: David (one of Saul’s lieutenants)
- he makes Jerusalem his capital over the unified Israelite kingdom
- Solomon, David’s son builds the First Temple
- kingdom of Israel & Kingodm of Judah arises

Assyrians conquest of the northern kingdom of Israel
What happened in 586 B.C.?
Babylonian conquest of southern kingdom of Israel
- the Babylonian king deports the Jews to Babylon and took them into captivity (The First Diaspora)
What was the Babylonian Exile/The First Diaspora?
- the deportation of Judeans from the ancient Kingdom of Judah to Babylonia
