Family was very important to Ancient Rome, loyalty to Rome.

- creates when patrician (rich person) is 35-40 yrs old (peak of his political career)

Three Branches of Roman Gov?
Magistrates and Consuls (Male Patricians)
- small number of men: direct military & watch over gov.
- have lots of power in gov, accountable to each other
- two CONSULS (2 patricians, then became 1 patrician 1 plebeian)
- executive MAGISTRATES (elected officials) (censors, consuls, praetors)
Senate
- 300-600 male patrician senators (plebians could join later in history)
- serve for life
- pass laws, control economy (finances), advise
- Tribune of the Plebs : 10 plebeians acting as power check on senators , can veto laws but can’t write them
Assemblies
- any adult Roman male can come (rich still had advantage)
- can appoint dictators in time of crisis

Cincinnatus (model temporary dictator)
- Roman patrician, military leader
- Statue in Ohio

- Honesty , truthfulness
Auctoritas
- Authority built through experience, dutifulness, and hard work
Frugalitas
- simplicity of style, use as less as you ca without being MISERABLE
Pietas
- dutifullness, respect for the natural order soially, politically, and religiously
rule of law
values/priorities
- respect superiors
- fairness, hear both sides of the story
- responsibility of yo actions
- control newborns and future people, teach them RIGHT
- keepplace in society (women roles and stuff like that)
lawmakers concern
- make sure things happen, (like make sure people listen), first willingly and if they don’t, THEN BY FORCE!!!!
- be specific, time periods, punishments (no rule abuse or loopholes)
- fair punishments

- truth and equality - sometimes people lie to get what they want and lower class have disadvantage
