6.3 Radio Waves Flashcards
What are em waves made up of
Oscillating electric magnetic fields
How can you produce radio waves
Using an alternating current in an electrical circuit the object which causes electrons to oscillate is a transmitter
When radio waves reach receiver what happens ?
They are absorbed
What happens to the energy carried by the waves ?
Transferred to the electrons in the material of receiver and this causes electrons to oscillate
What are radio waves used for ?
Communication
Can long wavelengths diffract around the curved surface of earth ?
Yes
Where are short radio waves reflected from ?
The ionosphere
Example of shortwave radio waves
Bluetooth to send over information between devices
What are tv and fm radio wavelengths ?
Short wavelengths but you have to be in direct sight of Transmitter
