5.3 Resultant Forces And Work Done Flashcards
If a skydiver is pulled down due to his weight what is the force acting on him in the opposite direction
Drag ( air resistance)
If there is a number of forces acting on a single point what can you do ?
Replace it with a single force (resultant force) that has the same effect as all the other forces together
How do you find the resultant force ?
Add those in same direction
Subtract those in the opposite direction
When a force moves and object through a distance what happens ?
Energy is transferred and work is done
What does the thing applying the force need ?
A source of energy
To move and object what needs to happen ?
The force has to do ‘work’ to move it and energy is transferred from on store to another
Work done equation
Work done = force x distance
Example of energy transferred and work done ?
Push something against rough surface -work done
Energy transferred from kinetic stores to thermal stores
