5.1 Contact And Non Conact Forces Flashcards
What is a Vector quantity ?
Quantities that have a magnitude and a direction
Examples of vector quantities
Force, velocity , displacement
What are scalar quantities?
Quantities that only have a speed and no direction
What are examples of scalar quantities?
Speed , distance , mass , temperature
What are vectors represented by ?
An arrow and the length represents the magnitude and direction of arrow represents the direction of quantity
If two bikes are travelling at the same speed but in different directions what will be the same and what will be different
They’ll be travelling at different speeds but at different velocities because they are travelling in different directions
What is a force ?
It is a push and on an object that is caused by it interacting with something
What is a contact force ?
The force acted when two objects are touching
What is a non contact force ?
The force that can act without two objects touching
Example of contact force ?
Friction, air resistance
Example of non contact forces ?
Magnetic force , gravitational force , electrostatic force
When two objects interact what is produced ?
A force produced on both sides
What is an interaction pair ?
A pair of forces that are equal and opposite and act on two interacting forces
Is the sun and earth are attracted to each other by the gravitational force what happens
An equal but opposite force of attraction is felt by both the Sun and the Earth
