5.4 Calculating Forces Flashcards
1
Q
How to find the resultant force from a scale drawing
A
1) draw arrows (tip to tail)
2) join them up to form triangle ( resultant force)
3) measure the length to find value of resultant force
4) angle as bearing
2
Q
What does it mean if the resultant force is zero ?
A
The object is in equilibrium
3
Q
On a scale diagram how would it show the object is in equilibrium?
A
The tip of the the last force you draw should end where the tail of the first force began
4
Q
How would you deal with forces that act on awkward angles ?
A
Split them into two components (horizontal and vertical) at right angles
