6.2 The Blood System Flashcards
Blood flow order
- Deoxy. Blood from body comes from veins
- Enters heart through inferior or superior vena cava into right atrium
- Through tricuspid valve into right ventricle
- Through semi Luna valve into pulmonary artery to lungs
- Oxy. Blood back into heart through pulmonary vein into left atrium
- Through mitral valve into left ventricle
- Through the aortic valve into aorta to rest of body
Arteries
Contain muscle cells and elastic fibres for blood to flow at high pressure
- Tunica externa
- Tunica media
- Tunica intima
Veins
Collect deoxygenated blood from tissue at return to right atrium of the heart at low pressure
Contain valves to prevent back flow
Globular lumin due to thinner 3 musclular walls
Capillary
1 red blood cell thick
Only has tunica intima
Allows exchange of materials to muscle tissue through cells
Systole
Heart chambers contracting
Distole
Chambers relax
Sino atrial node
Acts as pace maker and stimulated the left and right Atrium contractions
Sends electrical signals to stimulate contraction
Controlled by the medulla of the brain to increase or decrease heart rate
Atrioventricular node
Sends signal from brain stem to contract ventricles
Factors of heart rate
Fast heart rate:
- Low blood pressure
- Low oxygen to muscles
- Low pH
Slow HR:
- High blood pressure
- High O2
- High pH
Medulla gets signals from body to make sino atrial nodes increase or decrease HR
Epinephrine Pen
Injects Epinephrine (adrenaline)
Increases HR
Used for allergic reactions
Circulatory systems
Pulmonary- lungs for oxygen
Systemic - to body tissue
Coronary - supply heart with oxygenated blood and nutrients since it is a muscle
Coronary heart disease
Blockage in coronary arteries. Cause heart attack or stroke in brain
Factors (A GODDESS)
- Age
- genetics
- Obesity
- Diabetes
- Diet
- Sexuality
- Smoking
- Exercise
