Q

favourableness of a situation dictates which leadership style should be adopted
(fiedlers)

A
  • most-favourable situations = leader in strong position of authority and has respect for group, members have good relationships, task is clear (task-orientated needed)
  • least-favourable situation = leader has no power or respect from group, may still be infighting in group + hostility towards leader with task being unclear. (task-orientated needed)
  • moderately-favourable situation = leader would choose a persona-orientated style which allows other team member to contribute to decision making process, would have some power/respect, good relationships and task clear

Q

chelladurai’s multi-dimensional model of leadership

A

suggests that in order to ensure group satisfaction + high level of performance, leaders must be able to adapt their leadership style. suggests the leader gets the best from their team if the leadership style ‘fits’ with the situation and what the team needs.

Q

to get effective leadership (chelladurai’s)

A

once these factors are considered leader must try to balance their style of leadership in order to gain highest level of performance and satisfaction from the group.
the more the leaders actual behaviour actually matches what the group wants and the situational needs, the better the performance will be
