5.4 Angular Motion Flashcards
1
Q
What is angular motion
A
The movement around a fixed point or axis
2
Q
Definitions + units for angular motion
A
- angular displacement = smallest change in the angle between the starting + finishing points. Measured in radians
- angular velocity = rotational speed of an object + the axis about which the object of rotating. Measured in radians per second
- angular acceleration = the rate of change of angular velocity over time. Measure in radians per second squared.
3
Q
Conservation of angular velocity
A
Key points = torque -> ^ moment of inertia -> tuck -> decreased moment of inertia -> ^ angular velocity
To start movement the athlete needs to generate lots of torque by starting far from the pivot point by spreading body out, this increases moment of inertia, tuck body in which reduces moment of inertia + increases angular velocity allowing them to turn fast + gain more points
