6.1 Flashcards
prokaryote
organisms that dont have a nucleus
eukaryote
organisms that have a nucleus
bacteria cell
very simple cells that have a nucleus
They are also important in that they will help the body maintain itself in a healthy manner.
animal cell
basic cell for all living things
Some important functions of an animal cell include giving the animal’s body its structure, absorbing nutrients to convert to energy, and helping animals move. They also contain all the hereditary material of an organism and can make copies of themselves.
plant cell
basic cell for all plants
Plant cells are the fundamental organizational unit that mediate production, transport, and storage of our primary food sources and sequester a significant proportion of the world’s carbon.
benifits of pro and eu
pro-quick reproduction and simple
eu- more specific compartments in cells for special jobs
how do cells get rid of waste
lysosomes dissolve it then they go through the cell membrane and out of the cell
how do cells serve as a container
they have cell membranes and cell walls that help keep what they want in and helps get what they want out.
how do cells contain instructions/ read instructions
nucleus/ transcription and translation
how do cells get and use energy
They use sunlight to make ATP then they use that energy to use other things in the cell.
Both plant cells have parts in common to all eukaryotic cells: nucleus, ribosomes, ER, golgi apparatus, and a cell wall. Only the leaf cell has chloroplasts and only the root cell has the root hair and extra water channels.
One of the main jobs of the leaf cell is to perform photosynthesis and make sugar for other cells in the plant to use- it’s chloroplasts perform that function. The main job of the root cell is to absorb water and nutrients. The root hair increases surface area, and the transport proteins and water channels in along the root hair perform the function of absorbing water and nutrients.
