2.3 Flashcards
What happens with electrons during ionic, polar covalent, and nonpolar covalent bonds
in ionic the valence electron will stay where it is no bond. Polar the electron will move creating a bigger EN. Non polar will have equal use of the electron. Lowest EN
Differentiate between a polar and nonpolar covalent bond
polar works with opposite sides of the periodic table non polar works with the same kind of elements.
When given two atoms, what type of bond will form between them and why?
if their the same they will be non polar if they are opposites then they are polar if they do not interact then they are ionic.
Explain how electronegativity determines what type of bond two atoms will form
if their is one with more EN then the bond will be polar if EN is less non polar if their is non Ionic
Comparing how ionic and covalent substances dissolve in water
ionic dissolves individually covalent dissolves in groups.

what is EN
electronegitivity
electronegitivity
how much attraction atoms have to new bonding electrons to themselves
on the table what woud be the strongest atom
flourine because the streangth goes to the corrner up and down
weakest on table
the atom that is in the opposite bottom left corner because the arrows are away from them.
