5.1 Flashcards
Enzyme
catalyst to a reaction
Substrate
attaches to enzyme to make a reaction
Active site
where the substrate meets with the enzyme. has a specific shape
Activation energy
the minimum amount of energy for a reaction to occur
properties of enzymes
catalyzes the reaction and has a specific shape of active site for the substrate to fit into
substrate concintration
if their are more substrates their will be more reactions until their are to many and not enough enzymes
enzyme concintration
if their are more enzymes then the reaction rate will go up until their are too many and their are not enough substrates
temp
temp can cause the reaction to not happen because it will denature the stuff
ph
will denature the stuff needed for a reaction
How would you maximize enzyme activity considering all of the factors discussed in class? Minimize?
have more substrates, but not to many have a neutral ph and a temp thats close to body temp and make sure that you dont push anything to the extreme so that the reaction never happens
Compare and contrast inhibition and activation of enzymes
a substance that blocks the reaction of an enzyme vs when a reaction can take place because their is the right activation site. They both attach to the enzyme and they both have different parts connecting to the enzyme without being in the activation site
