Inkjet: clean print heads
Laser: check for scratches on the imaging drum; replace drum
Garbled print
- bad printer driver/ wrong model
- incorrect page description language (PCL or PostScript)
- make sure the driver configuration matches with the printer
Toner not fusing to paper
- almost always a fuser issue
- replace the fuser assembly
Paper jams
- open printer and remove jammed paper
- be careful not to rip the paper or damage any parts
- check paper weight/thickness
Faded print
- lower toner or ink
Incorrect paper size
- make sure print job matches the paper size in the printer
- some printers have multiple trays with different paper sizes
Paper not feeding
- check the condition of the pickup rollers
- check paper weight/thickness
Multipage misprint
Multiple prints pending in queue
- corrupted print job can cause the print spooler to crash
- most print spoolers are configured to automatically restart after failure
- check Windows event viewer for any information
- cancelling a corrupted print job can fix the issue
Speckling on printed pages
- leaking cartridge or residue in the printer
Double/echo images on the print
Laser: drum was not cleaned properly

Grinding noise
