5. Teams Flashcards
What is task and outcome interdependence
Task Interdependence is when team members require reciprocal interactions
Outcome interdependence is when teams depend on each other to get to a certain outcome (this can also be negative)
What are the three input variables of the Input Process Output model
Organizational Context
Task Characteristics
Team Composition (narcicism etc)
What are the five process Variables of the Input Process Output model
Norms Decision Making Communication Coordination (coordination/motivation loss in team processes) Cohesion
What are the three output variables of the Input Process Output model
Performance
Member Satisfaction
Innovation
What are the ways to assess team personality
In the studies it was done via twitter
There were three levels:
Mean level
Maximum level (highest team members scores)
Core role (importance of role of narcissicts)
What is the effect of narcisim on team performance
It negatively affects cohesion and performance
This effect is higher when there is high team familiraity
What are the 4 different team role types
Task related role: addressing the instrumental objectives of a group
Social Related role: maintaining the harmony of the group
Formal roles: prescribed to the member
Informal roles: arrose over time
What are the 5 steps of how a team role is transferred to a team meber
- Role sender develops expectations
- Role sender exerts role pressure to accept expectations
- Focal Person sees expectations
- Focal Person responds to role sender
- Focal person accepts role
What are the two types of role conflict
Interrole conflict: Expectations from two or more roles interfere with one another
Intrarole conflict: Expectations from two or more people on the same role interfere with one another
What is team cohesion and how can it be assessed
How much the groups sticks together and remain united
It can be assessed by direct measures like surveys or questionares or by indirect measures like sociograms
What are the four factors of the linear model of team cohesion
Forming
Storming (managing conflict and roles)
Norming (develop norms)
Performing
Explain the pendular model of cohesion and the life cycle model of cohesion
The pendular model says that cohesion changes over time
The live cycle model says that group forming mirrors birth and death of life
Quickly explain the carrons model of team cohesion
4 factors influence cohesion
environmental factors, personal factors, leadership factors and team factors
Cohesion then affect group outcomes (performance) and individual outcomes (behavior)
What are the three types of sport regarding cohesion
Interactive Sport: all players interact
Dyadic sport: two players coordinate
Coactive Sport: no interaction between players
What is the relationship between cohesion and performance
Impact of cohesion on performance is stronger than impact of performance on cohesion
