Q

Electronic Scanning

A

Pros:

  • Beam can move instantaneously
  • Fewer moving parts to break
  • High Data Rates
  • Instantaneous Beam Positioning
  • No Mechanical Breakdown
  • Increased Flexibility
    • “Multi-mode” operation
      • Fire Control
      • Air/Sea Search
    • Multi-target tracking

Cons:

  • Lost efficiency at high angles off array boresight

Q

Basic Continuous Wave (CW) RADAR

A
  • Continuously Transmits and Receives
  • Requires Two antennas
  • Cannot measure range
  • Must have relative motion to detect
  • Key component of this RADAR is the Mixer
