5-Inflammatory Disease Flashcards
what is vasculitis (AKA angitis
inflammation of vessels
how is vasculitis classified
1-etiology and pathogensis
2-anatomic site involved
3-distribution
4-duration
what are the classifications of etiologic and pathogenic vasculitis
- infectious
- immunologic
- radiation
- unkown
what are the classifications of anatomic site vasculitis
- aortitis
- arteritis
- capillaritis
- venulitis
- phlebitis
what are the classifications of distribution vasculitis
- localized
- systemic
what are the classifications for duration vasculitis
- acute
- chronic
what infectious diseases causes vasculitis
- bacterial sepsis (neisseria)
- bacterial thrombophlebitis
- rickettsial infections (aka rocky mtn spotted fever)
- spirochetal (syphilis)
- fungal (aspergillosis, mucormycosis)
- viral (herpes zoster)
what is nodosa
kussmauls disease
what is polyarteritis nodosa
intense inflammatory cell infiltrate in the arterial wall and surrounding conn tiss is associated with fibrinoid necrosis and disruption of vessel wall
what is the pathogenesis of immunologically mediated vasculitis
1–local immune complex formation in the vessel wall
2–deposition of circulating immune complexes in the vessell wall
3–depostion of cryoglobulins
what is the most common immunologically mediated acute vasculitis
hypersensitivity vasculitis
what is ANCA and what does it do
Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies
–cause inflammasation by activating leukocytes and by Fc receptor of engagement of ANCA bound to antigen
what are the 2 main patterns of immuno fleuroescent staining to distinguish different ANCA types
1–cytoplasmic localization of the staining (c-ANCA)
2–shows perinuclear staining (p-ANCA)
where would i find c-ANCA stain
patients with Wegener Granulomatosis
where would i find p-ANCA
patients with microscopic polyartheritis and CHurg-Strauss syndrome
