5. GIT tract- pig Flashcards
1
Q
what type of stomach does a pig have?
A
simple composite stomach
2
Q
Describe the topographical relationships of the pig stomach
A
- has glandular and non glandular parts
- has gastric diverticulum
- cardiac portion is thin-walled and intrinsically immobile and non-glandular
- oesophagus and pyloric regions are very close- small lesser curvature
- torus pyloric is firm and tough
- has rugae
3
Q
what is the gastric diverticulum?
A
fundic extension that distinguishes pig stomach from other species
4
Q
what are rugae in the stomach?
A
ridges that increase surface area of the stomach and stretch out to increase stomach volume when stomach is full
5
Q
describe the pig large intestine
A
- spiral colon // three dimensional
- Base of the spiral colon lies dorsal position
- Ascending colon is arranged in a cone around its mesentery
- Outer part of the cone is wider and sacculated (centripetal)
- inner part- Centrifugal coils concealed within the centre of the cone
6
Q
describe the pig colon
A
- no villi
- mucosal surface relatively flat
- colonic mucosal epithelium contains goblet cells
- mucosa lined with simple columnar epithelium
7
Q
describe the pig GIT
A
- Most jejunum lies largely to the right
- mesentery is much shorter in pig jejunum
- Caecum is on the left hand side
- large intestine has bands and sacculations but more subtle
- Spleen is loosely attached to the greater curvature and lies in a dorso-ventral orientation
