.5 ASTAC SOP Flashcards
Loss Of Visual Contact
Loss of Visual Contact flight member immediate “Blind” call:
i. Flight Lead reports HDG and altitude, and airspeed,
ii. Blind est HDG and altitude separation
1. Turn 20 away and est 200’ off altitude
2. Once est report alititude and HDG
iii. Flight Lead directs and conducts rendezvous
Note: More than one element is blind execute IIMC fan break.
Section Lost Comm: Day
i. Pass appropriate hand and arm signal.
ii. If hand and arm signal don’t are unsuccessful, bad comm turns nav light to flash bright and cyclic ramp
iii. Once signal is returned. Bad comm a/c goes to Wing Pos
Section Lost Comm: Night
i. Flash IR search light to indicate Bad comm.
ii. If IR search light does not work use nav lights flashing Dim
iii. Signal returned bad comm a/c goes to Wing pos
IIMC
a. Any element goes IIMC they call “POPEYE”
b. Lead calls and flies base Altitude and HDG; executing a climb(if necessary) to the MSA
c. Fan Break: –x: +/- x ten degree / (2x) hundred feet MSA [-2: +/- 20/+400’ MSA]
d. Upon completion of fan break turn a/c checks in with Lead to report flight position, and current conditions, HDG,and altitude
e. Lead will direct next move
RVL Profile numbers
200’/60KIAS/.5NM 150/50 125/45/.3NM 100/40 75/30 50/20 25/10
Dusty landing at min who should have reference?
The PAC and 1 aircrew man must have reference to continue to the deck
RVL recommended wave off criteria:
200’ and below: > 500 fpm descent
100’ and below: > +15 nose up
50’ and below: > +5 knots fast
What does NTTP stand for? As in NTTP 3.22.5 ASTACSOP
Navy Tactics, techniques, and procedures
Hot LZ procedures
- After landing and debarking Marines, each aircraft immediately lifts when the departure path is clear and execute the prebriefed Hot LZ procedure
- First aircraft out of the zone proceed via routing to egress IP, Climb to highest altitude for assault support
- Dependent on amount of other aircraft give spacing for each aircraft to come underneath and form up high to low
- Each aircraft makes a lifting call. AFL still makes the PAX inserted call.
R2P2 steps
- Problem Framing
- COA Development
- COA Wargaming
- COA Comparision and decision
- Orders Development
- Transition
How do you plan an Air Assault?
Opposite of how you would execute it.
- Ground Tactical Plan
- Landing Plan
- Air Movement Plan
- Loading Plan
- Staging Plan
Landing Zones are named after?
Birds
Landing Sites are named after?
Colors or cardinal directions
Landing Spots are named after?
Numbered
Holding Areas are named after?
Women’s names
Initial Points are named after?
Car makers
Battle Positions are named after?
Animals; Normally Snakes
Air to Air Refueling Tracks are named after?
Gas Stations
Recommended LZ size for a section of 53s is?
L: 300’
W: 400’
If you hear the word Gingerbread followed by a callsign what is happening?
The callsign has been marked unreliable.
They should be given 2 opportunities to correctly respond to authentication for initiating Gingerbread.
When is “beadwindow” used?
When friendly information is compromised.
What is the lowest EMCON threat? Highest?
1 is the Lowest; While 4 is the Highest
Type of TRAP GamePlans?
Snatch, Flyaway, Offset
Define EMCON 1?
This has changed
Electronic Warfare Support threat is negligible, as compared to the fire power threat to survival. Only essential radio transmissions are made and aircraft emitters are to be used as required
Define EMCON 2?
Majority of Tactical situations are flown in this condition. A serious ES threat exists; takeoffs and landing use MINCOM procedures. Operate radios at a bare minimum and use brevity codes to reduce transmission time. All other emitters may be used.
Define EMCON 3?
The most restrictive condition.
Used when a serious Electronic Warfare Support threat exists.
Electronic Emissions are prohibited to include: radios, DME, IFF [except 4/5 as req]
Rad ALT permitted as required for safety of flight.
What does FENCE check stand for?
Fire control
Emissions
Navigation
Communication
Expendables
What is the call made if the flight encounter IIMC?
“Popeye”
What does the term “Columbus” mean?
Deliberate Navigational deviation shall be followed with where you are going.
Mandatory objective area calls.
- “(Callsign), (cp name), as fragged [or with exceptions].” - @ CP prior; AFL -> EFL
- “(Callsign), (LZ name), cherry [ice]. - EFL -> AFL
- (Callsign), (IP name) inbound (LZ Name). - @ IP; AFL -> EFL
- (Callsign), Continue/Hold, (EFL callsign) established (location). - EFL ->AFL
- “(Callsign) Lifting, (LZ name) (Pax number) inserted.” Or “(Callsign) waveoff (LZ name).”
TRAP Gameplan: Snatch
RV remains on deck or in a hover during the recovery. Used when insertion of the TRAP force IVO of isolated personnel is possible
TRAP gameplan: flyaway
RV lands, inserts TRAP force and then departs the zone to a HA until called back in for extract.
TRAP gameplan: Fly Away
RV inserts the TRAP force and then departs the zone to an HA until called back. The TRAP force should maintain security of the LZ during the recovery if able. Advantageous if there isn’t a great air threat.
Objective area lost comms what are the signals for LZ being cherry and ice?
LZ Ice= escorts will send an aircraft back w/ STEADY searchlight in the day [IR at night]
LZ Cherry = signal by flying back to the Assault IP w/ lead FLASHING searchlight
