Why did Puritanism decline by the late 1580s?

A
  • The deaths of puritan members of the council such as Leicester, Mildmay and Walsingham decreased its political influence
  • The defeat of the Spanish Armada had reduced the threat of Catholics
  • The decline of Presbyterianism had made Puritanism more acceptable in the church’s structure
