Neocolonialism
Indirectly influencing/controlling peripheral states
Peripheral states
Staates that are focused on agriculture, relatively less industrial development
Core states
States that have the most advanced technology and have external political power
Shatterbelt
A region that is consistently fragmented due to centrifugal forces (usually these regions are rich with resources)
Chokepoints
A narrow passage that restricts traffic to another region
Strait
A narrow Jody of water that connects two larger bodies of water
Boundary
A clearly demarcated line that marks both the limits of a territory and divisions between territories
Median line principle
An approach to dividing and creating boundaries at the line between two places
Borderland
A region straddling both sides of a boundary where cultures then overlap and blend
Frontier
A region at the margins of state control and settlement
Exclave
Part of a national territory but separated from the country it belongs to.
Enclave
A territory that is surround by a country but not ruled by it like Lesotho
