4.2 Study Guide Flashcards
What is the order of DNA Replication? What is the in-depth order as well?
Helicase, Primase, DNA Polymerase III, DNA Polymerase I, and Ligase. The advanced order is: DNA is separated, RNA primer is laid down, DNA nucleotide bases are added, RNA primer is replaced by DNA, and okazaki fragments are glued together.
What is the only direction is DNA made?
5’ to 3’, nucleotides are added to the 3’ ends.
What are DNA strands? What does this mean for nucleotides?
DNA strands are antiparallel, that means nucleotides are added in opposite directions on the two parent strands.
Which way is the leading strand going? Which was is the lagging strand going?
Towards the replication fork; away from the replication fork.
How do they copy from leading to lagging?
Continuously; discontinuously.
What is the difference of DNA Polymerase III and I?
III makes DNA and I edits, repairs, and removes primer.
How often and many mistakes are there in DNA?
Mistakes are few but can still happen every time a cell divides.
