2.3 Study Guide Flashcards
What is a polar bond?
A polar bond is a bond with opposite atoms.
What is a non polar bond?
A non polar bond is a bond with the same atoms with two nonmetals.
What is a ionic bond?
An ionic bond is one that’s stronger than a covalent bond by using a non metal and a metal to bond.
What happens to ionic bonds in water? What happens to covalent bonds?
With ionic bonds, they disconnect as the water gets in the way, but with covalent bonds, they stay together.
What is the difference between the two bonds?
With polar bonds, the atoms are opposites of each other, and with non polar bonds, they are the same as each other.
When given atoms, what bond do they form?
They can form a bond, a double bond, or a triple bond.
What is the strongest bond?
A triple bond.
How does electronegativity determine the type of bond atoms form?
It determines how strong it’ll be.
