3.5 practical (biological) Flashcards
1
Q
what was the aim of the practical?
A
to investigate the relationship between height and physical aggression
2
Q
what was the sample?
A
- 12 participants
- 6 male, 6 female
- age 16-62 (average 32)
- opportunity sample
make this up if you forget but remember it’s 12 participants
3
Q
what was the procedure for the practical?
A
- measure participant’s height in cm
- ask for consent by saying “do you want to answer this questionnaire?”
- give questionnaire link via social media
- Buss-Perry aggression questionnaire
- questionnaire measures physical, verbal, hostility and anger aggression
4
Q
what were the findings of the practical?
A
- spearman rho correlation test was used to see if the correlation was significant
- used significance level of 0.05
- calculated value was 0.0367
5
Q
what was the conclusion of the practical?
A
as the calculated value of 0.0367 is lesser than the critical value of 0.587 at the significance level of 0.05, we accept the null hypothesis —> write out the null hypothesis
6
Q
what’s a strength of the practical?
A
- it was correlational
- allows us to investigate relationship between aggression and a factor we cannot ethically or practically investigate otherwise
- therefore we can identify relationships between height and behaviour that otherwise cannot be investigated
7
Q
what’s a weakness of the practical?
A
- measured aggression using a questionnaire
- social desirability bias may occur and some people may lie to appear less or more aggressive
- therefore, the physical aggression score may not be accurate
8
Q
what are some improvements to the practical?
A
- add distraction questions to prevent participants to guess the aim of the study
e.g = “do you think pineapples belong on pizza?”
- make height measurements more accurate by using a measuring tape to ensure height values are accurate
