  • does this much slower than heroin
  • reduces withdrawal symptoms as binding to receptors still occurs

what’s an arguement for drug treatment?

A
  • could be affective as methadone doses can be reduced more easily
  • allows addicts to break dependence on opioids more affectively
  • therefore, addict will feel less withdrawals and be able to live and work normally, with less cravings. allows them to stop committing crimes

what’s an argument against drug treatment?

A
  • reduction of methadone means user will still experience withdrawal symptoms like vomiting
  • this deters users from continuing the program and combatting side effects costs more
  • therefore, drug therapy may not be effective enough as participants can relapse due to withdrawal factors + it makes the NHS lose money
