3.5 Cell specialisation and organisation Flashcards
1
Q
What is a tissue
A
A collection of similar cells that perform a specific function
2
Q
What are some examples of tissues
A
- Epithelial tissues - line the surfaces of organs and often have secretory function
- Xylem - Transport water
3
Q
What is an organ
A
A combination of tissues that are coordinated to perform a variety of functions
4
Q
Describe the different tissues that make up the stomach
A
- Muscle to churn the stomach contents
- Epithelium to protect the stomach wall and produce secretions
- Connective tissues to hold together the other tissuea
5
Q
What is an organ system
A
Organs working together as a single unit. These systems may be grouped together to perform particular functions more efficiently.
6
Q
What are the 3 types of organ systems in humans
A
- Digestive system
- Respiratory system
- Circulatory system
